MINIMALLY INVASIVE HEMHORRHOIDAL SURGERY
Now there is an alternative to hemorrhoidectomy. Trans-anal Hemorrhoidal Dearterialization (THD) is a minimally invasive approach to traditional hemorrhoidectomy. It is just as effective as hemorrhoidectomy, but the procedure is less painful and offers quicker recovery.
This innovative minimally invasive approach to hemorrhoidal disease is based on our new ability to identify the superficial submucosal blood supply, using single use Doppler ultrasound probes to de-arterialize the bleeding and prolapsing hemorrhoidal vascular cushions by suture ligation. This can be combined with plication of these prolapsing structures to prevent prolapse.
Severity, and duration of pain, difficultly with defecation is markedly reduced compared to the traditional hemorrhoidectomy, with comparable recurrence rates. Our initial series of patients have been extremely satisfied, and the outcomes have been excellent, with our landmark Canadian introduction of this clinically proven technique from Europe and the United States.
